Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is progressively becoming a significant factor in changing the education of autistic learners by giving tailored, adaptable, and widely accessible tools that are designed specifically for neurodiverse learners. This survey aims to examine and summarise the current trends of AI technologies used in this field. We used Braun and Clarke’s six-phase thematic analysis framework to deeply analyse fifteen peer-reviewed articles published between 2021 and 2025. During the analysis, we discovered four major themes: (1) AI modalities – describing the various technologies being applied in autism education; (2) educational domains – referring to the specific areas of learning that have been targeted; (3) implementation settings – concentrating on where the technologies have been put into practice; and (4) reported gaps – limitations that have been covered in the existing literature. Future research should focus on the development of tailored, ethically grounded AI applications that would help personalise learning and communication for autistic children. The main areas for such work should be long-term verification, ensuring that the cultural aspects of the material are pertinent, and its compatibility with neurodiversity-affirming and culturally informed educational frameworks. This goal is to introduce educational innovation that is sympathetic, technologically scalable, and adaptable to various localities.
