Author Guidelines

Malaysian Journal of Information and Communication Technology (MyJICT)

Authors are strongly encouraged to carefully review the Author Guidelines when preparing their manuscripts to ensure they meet the formatting and submission requirements of MyJICT. Authors must also uphold ethical standards and avoid any form of plagiarism, as outlined in MyJICT’s code of ethics.

The Malaysian Journal of Information and Communication Technology (MyJICT) is a refereed journal that publishes original and well-researched articles in the fields of information and communication technology (ICT), as well as other related areas. Manuscripts submitted to the Malaysian Journal of Information and Communication Technology (MyJICT) must meet the requirements stated in our submission guidelines and must follow the format specified in the template guide. If the requirements are not met, submissions will be returned to the author and cannot progress to the review stage.

MyJICT accepts manuscripts written in English or Malay. Submissions must be original and must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere, whether in electronic or print format. Additionally, the manuscript must not have been previously published. The corresponding author is required to declare this upon submission to the journal.

Manuscripts should be submitted through the online submission system of OJS. The new author will be required to register as a new user before proceeding to the submission stage. Most processes and procedures are self-explanatory, but if assistance is needed, please email the Managing Editor.

Manuscript

Manuscript should be prepared following the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th style guide by using Times New Roman. For Malay manuscripts additional abstract and title in English should be attached. Keywords consisting of up to five (5) words should also be provided in the manuscript. Font size should be 11 for Times New Roman and typed in single spacing. The length of the article should not be more than 30 pages, including references. Kindly use the MyJICT template for further reference.

Authorship

All authors who are named on the manuscript must have contributed to the paper, whether in the design and/or analysis and interpretation of the data/or drafting of the paper. All authors must have critically reviewed and approved the contents of the final version of the manuscript submitted for publication.

Conflict of Interest

Authors must avoid any actual or perceived conflict of interest throughout the submission and review process.

As MyJICT practices a peer-review system, authors should not suggest reviewers from the same institution or those who have previously read or commented on the current or earlier versions of the manuscript. Doing so would compromise the integrity and impartiality of the review process.

While suggested reviewers may be taken into consideration, the journal reserves the right to select independent reviewers if the nominated individuals are unresponsive or deemed inappropriate.

Acknowledgement

Authors must clearly state the source of research funding in the Acknowledgment section using the following format:

“This research was supported by [Grant Name] (Grant No.).”

Any individuals or parties who contributed to the article but are not listed as authors should also be acknowledged, with relevant details provided in the Acknowledgment section.

Timeliness

Authors are encouraged to submit their manuscript revisions promptly. MyJICT requires revisions to be completed within two (2) weeks. If authors encounter any issues that may delay the revision process, they must notify the Editorial Office in advance to request an extension. Failure to submit the revised manuscript by the given deadline without notification will result in the manuscript being automatically withdrawn from consideration.

If an author wishes to withdraw a submitted manuscript, a formal notification must be sent to the Editorial Office along with a valid reason for the withdrawal.

Copyright Assignment and Permissions

All articles published in MyJICT retain copyright by the respective authors. Publications are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license, which allows anyone to freely download, read, share, and reuse the content, provided that the original work is properly cited. This license ensures broad accessibility and visibility of the research while giving due credit to the authors.

In certain exceptional cases, alternative licensing may be applied. If authors are bound by specific funding requirements or other conditions that do not permit the use of the CC BY 4.0 license, they must inform the MyJICT Managing Editorial Team during the submission process. Special licensing requests will be reviewed and approved at the publisher's discretion.

Reproducing Published Material from other Publishers

Authors must secure permission before reproducing any published content (such as figures, schemes, tables, or text extracts) that is not in the public domain or for which they do not own the copyright. This permission should be obtained directly from the copyright holder, which is typically the publisher (refer to the publication’s imprint to confirm the rights holder).

Permission is required for:

  1. Works previously published by another publisher, where copyright was not retained by the author.
  2. Substantial portions of another person’s work or multiple works.
  3. Tables, graphs, charts, schemes, and artworks are used without significant modification.
  4. Photographs not owned by the author.

Permission is not required for:

  1. Re-created tables based on published data, provided the source is cited as "Data from..." or "Adapted from...".
  2. Short quotations that qualify as fair use.
  3. Graphs, charts, schemes, or artworks that have been completely redrawn and substantially altered so they are no longer recognisable from the original.

Obtaining Permission

To prevent unnecessary delays in the publication process, authors are encouraged to seek permission as early as possible. If there is any uncertainty regarding copyright ownership, permission should be requested. MyJICT is unable to publish material from other sources without the necessary authorisation.

The copyright holder may specify how the acknowledgement should appear. If no instructions are provided, use the following format at the end of the caption for a table, figure, or scheme: "Reproduced with permission from [author], [book/journal title]; published by [publisher], [year]."

Unless otherwise stated, all content on this website (including but not limited to text, source code, artwork, photographs, images, music, audio files, video files, and audiovisual material) is the property of the Malaysian Journal of Information and Communication Technology, Islamic University of Selangor (UIS), and its licensors.

Manuscript Format and Structure

Please review this section thoroughly to prevent any issues during the submission process. Manuscripts that are prepared according to the required format and style, with minimal errors, will help ensure clear communication and a faster publication process. If necessary, the MyJICT Editorial Office may return the manuscript to the authors for scientific or editorial revisions, which could delay publication. Authors are advised to use the provided template as a reference when preparing their manuscripts.

The Editor reserves the right to make language corrections and suggest improvements for clarity and conciseness. Additional charges may apply depending on the quality and completeness of the submitted work. Therefore, authors should carefully proofread their manuscripts before submitting them for final review to the Editorial Office.

Manuscript File Type

Prepare your manuscript in a SINGLE file following the arrangement of the sections: Title Page Information; Manuscript (Text); Figures and/or Tables. Malaysian Journal of Information and Communication Technology only accepts Microsoft Word (MS Word) type of file format. Refrain from submitting your manuscript as a PDF file.

Language

Manuscripts may be written in either English (UK or US) or Bahasa Melayu (Malay-Malaysia), but not a combination of both. Submissions must use clear and accurate language in the correct format. Authors whose first language is not English are strongly encouraged to have their work proofread or reviewed by a proficient English speaker before submission. Manuscripts containing numerous language errors may be rejected.

Title Page Information

Title – Must be concise and informative, written entirely in CAPITAL LETTERS.

Author Names, Affiliations, and ORCID – All listed authors must have their names spelled correctly and presented in a single line, following the format: last name first, followed by the initials of the first and middle names (e.g., New, C.Y.). Author affiliation addresses should be placed directly below the author names, written in full without abbreviations. Use superscript numbers before each author’s last name to indicate their affiliation, and use the same superscript before the corresponding address. Each author’s ORCID should also be provided.

Corresponding Author – Clearly identify the corresponding author with an asterisk (*) before their name. Only the email address of the corresponding author should be provided, placed after the affiliation details.

Manuscript Style

Main section headings should be in bold and placed on a separate line. Subheadings or subsections should have a short, descriptive title, written in italics, and also appear on their own separate line. Authors are encouraged to limit the use of subsections. All headings and subheadings should be numbered sequentially.

Heading

Subheading

The manuscript should contain the following sections:

Abstract – A concise summary presenting the specific aims, a brief outline of the methods, key findings, and conclusions in a single paragraph. Do not include references in the abstract. Non-standard or uncommon abbreviations should be avoided; if necessary, define them at their first occurrence within the abstract. Include the contribution of the study to the international intellectual community.

Keywords – Provide between 3 and 5 keywords that reflect the core aspects of the research. Separate each keyword with a comma (,) on a single line.

Introduction and Literature Review – A concise review of relevant literature and prior work, supported by references. Clearly state the research objectives in the final paragraph of this section.

Methodology – Describe the methods in sufficient detail to ensure reproducibility. Cite established or published methods appropriately, and note any modifications made.

Results / Findings – Present results clearly and concisely. Use tables and figures where appropriate to improve clarity, avoiding repetition of data in both text and visual formats.

Discussion – Explain the significance, implications, and impact of the results. The discussion may be presented separately or combined with the results section.

Conclusion – Provide a concise summary of the interpretation of results along with any recommendations. Avoid repeating details already mentioned in earlier sections.

Conflict of Interest – Disclose any potential conflicts of interest in this section.

Acknowledgement – Briefly state sources of funding or contributions from other parties in a single paragraph, keeping this section minimal.

References

Citation in Text

References in the text should follow the format: (author, year). For further details on formatting and referencing, please refer to the APA Publication Manual, 7th Edition (www.apastyle.org).

All references cited in the text must appear in the reference list, arranged alphabetically by the authors’ names. Authors are responsible for ensuring that all references are COMPLETE and ACCURATE, with no missing information required by MyJICT. Every reference cited in the text must appear in the reference list, and every entry in the reference list must be cited in the text.

Use the following style for figure captions: Figure 1: Theoretical Framework of Information and Communication Technology.

Footnotes

Footnotes should be used sparingly. They must be numbered sequentially in the text using superscript numbers and kept as brief as possible.

Miscellaneous

Abbreviations should only be used when a lengthy term or expression is repeated throughout the manuscript, and should never appear in the title. The full term should be provided at first mention, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses.

After Acceptance

Once your paper is accepted for publication, you will receive an email notification containing the decision and an acceptance letter. All accepted manuscripts are subject to an Article Processing Charge (APC) to cover publication costs, website maintenance, and administrative fees. In exceptional cases, the Editor may waive this fee (see our APC Waiving Policy).

The Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editors will perform a technical check to assess the quality and formatting of the manuscript. If clarification is required, the manuscript may be returned to the author, and additional charges may apply.

Proof Corrections

Once all required documents are received, the manuscript will proceed to production. Authors will be notified via email when the PDF proof is ready for final review before publication. Proofs must be returned to the Production Editor within two (2) days of receipt.

Authors are allowed one round of corrections before the proof is finalised. Any further corrections will incur additional charges. Therefore, authors should check the galley proof thoroughly before submission.

Article Retraction or Removal

If an author wishes to retract or remove their article, a written request must be submitted to the Editorial Office with a valid justification. However, such action is strongly discouraged once the manuscript has been accepted for publication. MyJICT provides full publishing services, and the APC helps recover these costs. Retraction or removal does not negate the publishing services already provided or our ongoing maintenance of the academic record.

Article Withdrawal without Notification after Acceptance

Withdrawing an article without notification after acceptance is a serious breach of publishing ethics. Authors are responsible for the progress of their submitted manuscripts. If MyJICT does not receive a response from the author within two weeks after acceptance, the article will be considered withdrawn. This may negatively affect the author’s professional reputation, as MyJICT strictly follows publishing ethics.

Manuscript Submission Checklist

Before submitting your manuscript to MyJICT for review, ensure the following requirements are met:

  • The submission has not been published previously, nor is it under review by another journal (unless an explanation has been provided in the Comments to the Editor).
  • The text is submitted as a blind document (without author names and affiliations).
  • The abstract in English is compulsory and must include the problem statement, objectives, methodology, findings, brief discussion, significance of the research, contribution to the field (worldwide), and recommendations for future research.
  • A plagiarism report (Turnitin) is provided, with a similarity index of less than 20%.
  • The title page containing the title and author names with affiliations is submitted as a separate document.
  • The manuscript file is in Microsoft Word format.
  • Five potential expert reviewers have been suggested, with their names, affiliations, and email addresses provided in a separate document.
