The Relationship Between Levels of Awareness, Understanding and Electronic Waste Disposal Practices Based on the Perspective of Students and Lecturers at the Selangor International Islamic University College (KUIS)

E-waste is an environmental threat towards the nature and living things today. Most of people never really realize how serious the negative impacts of e-waste towards health and environmental sustainability. A study on e-waste management is crucial today to reduce this problem. A study on e-waste management in Malaysia should be expanded so that it might create awareness, understanding and proper practice of disposal of e-waste. This study is a quantitative study to analyze the level of awareness, understanding and proper practice of disposal of e-waste based on the perspective of students and lecturers education field in Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS). The study used a non-clustered random sampling. Number of respondents either man or woman among students and lecturers are 150. Returned sample of survey tools are 120. The result obtained was there is a significant relationship between awareness, understanding and practice of disposal of electronic waste, and also there is a significant relationship between awareness, understanding and practice of electronic waste disposal with the education of students and lecturers at the college. The findings show in general that the level of awareness and understanding among students and faculty in the college of electronic waste is good but the level of electronic waste disposal practices are still very low among the respondents. A campaign or education about e- waste management can be extended to a greater good with the support from the top management higher institution. A proper disposal practice of e-waste should be started in a higher institution and school. As time goes by it will become the practice in their families and future generations.
